Right on the heels of our last day of camp, people are already asking about next year's FUNdamentals Camp offered by KW Sertoma Speed Skating Club for 5-12 year olds, both novices and beginners.
Under the Camp Directorship of Patti Walsh, 20 children became part of Jesse's Jesters, Betsy's Bouncers and Julie's Jugglers to participate in a half-day camp that ran from Aug. 28th to 31st. Campers were immersed in activities both on and off ice on Safari Day, Animal Day, Food Day and our grand FUNale: Olympic Day.
Two hours of ice instruction and coaching each day taught the skaters the basics and allowed them to practise in traditional training programs as well as theme-related fun games.
Once off their blades, dryland training focused on physical literacy for this age group with lots more theme-related activity including movement, games, training journals and snack time.
Campers came from as far away as London, Newmarket and Barrie as well as Cambridge and K-W. We had four first time speed skaters and they were very quickly embraced by the friendly speed skating community.

A HUGE thank you goes to our many student and adult volunteers, some of whom were able to put their training from the FUNdamentals Leaders and FUNdamentals Coaching Courses into first hand experience.
We had so much FUN and are already looking forward to doing it all again next summer!
